Moin ihr Lieben!
G´day Ladies!
Please scroll down for the english version.
Also was tun?
Was meint ihr, taugt der was?

Hi Ladies,
isn´t it lovely outside?
Okay, I must admit, I had this circleskirt cut out before it became sunny, but it was the perfect time to do so, just now it is hung and hemmed, in other words – ready to wear 🙂
As some of you might know, I am a retro-lover; I simply adore the feminine styles of the 30ies, 40ies and 50ies. When I was in London last year, I found a lovely circleskirt at the sale from „Collectif“, which I wear ever so often. This brand specialized in 50ies Ladieswear and I felt like a kid in a candystore 😀
I liked the pattern so much that I thought it couldn´t be too difficult to copy it. One thought – one deed. Measured my waist, the pieces of the original skirt, bought fabric and fusible interfacing and started cutting. Unfortunately I made a mistake during the calculation for the waistmeasurement and so my circle ended up being quite a bit too wide to match the waistband….grrrrr. So what to do? I didn´t want to ruffle the fabric, it makes your hips look much bigger than they are. So I decided to encorporate two little tucks in front and back to accomodate the extra width. I changed the place of the tucks after basting skirt and waistband together, but now I´m quite satisfied with the outcome.
Because of the fabric being rather thin, I decided to add a cotton lining to the skirt. It makes the silhoutte a bit poufy, so there´s no need to add a petticoat. Not that I wouldn´t have seven metres of tulle lying around in my stash….
So far I didn´t do the suspenders, maybe I will still add them later.
The so called invisible zipper and I are on not such good terms…result is a rather visible one again, which doesn´t really bother me. The only thing that does bother me is, that I still haven´t found out how they managed to put a pocket before the side seam with the zipper in it. Maybe next time. In the meantime my skirt has only one inseam pocket.
What do you think, wearable? I certainly feel very girly in it 🙂 love the roses.
Summary: circle skirt with broad waistband self-drafted
Quite easy to sew, including a few self-inflicted complications
fabric: approx. 2,50m; 140cm width, cotton sateen
lining:approx. 2m, lightweight cotton lawn
piping: 80cm
zipper: 20cm
A girl can never have too many skirts, right? Another piece to cross off my 2016 sewing-list.
